About me

Sydney based artist and illustrator who celebrates bold and bright colours and her urban surroundings

Hello!

I’m a contemporary artist based in Orange, NSW, where I live with my French husband Johann and our young two daughters, Olive and Clémentine.

I grew up mustering sheep on a farm in Boorowa and playing cricket in Wagga Wagga. After years living in Sydney, Paris and Brighton, I now draw on those experiences to reflect the charm, humour and unique character of regional Australian life through my work.

My paintings are playful, bold and nostalgic — capturing the quiet joy of everyday life. With colour at the core of my work, I aim to stir emotion, spark memories and highlight the beauty in ordinary moments. Much of my art is shaped by motherhood and the rhythm of regional living — a celebration of home, connection and finding the magic in the everyday.

You will see that cricket is a recurring theme in my work. I played from a young age and went on to represent the state at school. I love exploring the culture of the game, from the buzz of an SCG crowd to the magic of arvo cricket in the country, with each piece grounded in a strong sense of place and community.

My work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs across Australia, and is held in private collections in Australia and around the world. I was honoured to be a finalist in the 2024 Regional Landscape Art Prize and the Jumbled Art Superstar Awards, with all works from my 2023 show Town & Country selling in the first week.

“Sophie is inspired by the city streets she walks and her use of bold colour helps to draw out the unique character of the neighbourhoods she portrays in her work.”
